As a new patient the appointment will last between 45 minutes to an hour. First we will give you an audit form to fill with contact details and some of your medical history.
Your osteopath will then talk with you about the current issue, previous injuries, any surgeries, medications as well as your general lifestyle. This is a good time to discuss your expectations and ask any questions that you may have.
During the examination your osteopath will observe your posture, active and passive movements as well as use specific orthopaedic tests. As movement is an important part of assessment and treatment please wear clothes you are comfortable to move in. You may then be asked to remove some items of clothing or undress to your underwear. This is preferable as the osteopath needs to see the area requiring treatment as well as feel and manipulate the affected areas.
The treatment will includes a combination of hands on techniques involving articulation and mobilisation of joints as well as stretching of muscles. Remember that we are working together with you and that if you find any treatment technique uncomfortable or painful, please do not be afraid to tell your practitioner to stop. We know many different treatment techniques and we will tailor make each treatment for you.
Advice and exercises will be given to you to help you become aware of your body and posture and stay pain free.
- Please do bring any x-ray or scans with accompanying letters related to your condition, if these are available to you, as they would be useful in our assessment.
- If you are on any medications please also bring a list of any tablets you may be taking.
- If you feel uncomfortable getting undressed, you can bring a some shorts, leggings, any comfortable clothes that will allow you to move freely.
- It is not unusual to feel some soreness 24-48h after your treatment, just follow your osteopath’s advice and you will feel better. If you are worried please call us .
Ongoing treatment will last between 30 and 45 minutes. In most case patients feel a symptomatic relief after 2-3 sessions. However in more chronic case, a longer course of treatment may be needed. Some patients also like to come in for maintenance once their initial complaint has been relieved.
Massage treatments with Isabelle can be booked as a separate treatment if preferred for continuing patients. These treatments are focused purely on releasing tension and working on tight muscles. They do not include an examination or diagnosis of a complaint.
